A health coach develops plans and strategies to help individuals achieve goals in areas such as emotional well-being, nutrition, exercise, mind-body connections, management of disease or medical diagnosis. When individuals feel better and learn how to set and effectively achieve goals, they find increased ability to manage other areas of their lives.
Body Physiology
Metabolic disorders, which lead to conditions such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, many forms of cancer, and Alzheimer's, are a massive concern in this country. According to the World Health Organization, ischemic heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. Ischemia is defined as inadequate blood supply (circulation) to a local area due to blockage of the blood vessels supplying the area. Many types of cancer, diabetes, fatty liver disease are attributed to poor quality diet and lack of exercise. Since 2000, Alzheimer's deaths have increased 145%. The belief that medical doctors will successfully treat metabolic symptoms have led us to continue indulging in screen time and enjoying extra large portions at our favorite restaurants. I will help you make sense of the confounding information on social media, encourage you to begin paying attention to what is going on inside your body, and explore feasible options to improve physiological health.
Medically Prescribed Interventions
Let's face it, change is tough and accepting a new medical diagnosis can be downright ominous. If your provider has prescribed new medications, new medical devices, or lifestyle changes and you are struggling with adherence, you may benefit from support and accountability with the interventions. Or you may be looking for holistic approaches to add to the effectiveness of those prescribed interventions. Collaboratively, we can review options for discussing safe, behavioral approaches with your medical provider.
Nutrition Modification
Yo-yo dieting, non-prescribed caloric restricting, and miracle pills are everywhere. Diet culture is choking the life out of so many people. If you find yourself obsessing about your body weight and have an unhealthy relationship with food, I am here to help you make sense out of it all. I want to help you learn how to escape diet culture and begin listening to your body. Food is medicine. Food is life. (NOTE: Nutrition coaching is not a replacement for eating disorder treatment.
